Date: July 2, 2008 I can't figure out what this is. I had just started seeing them in wooded areas staying higher up in the trees and calling alot. It was around Robin size (~9-10in). Anyone care to lend an opinion? Thanks!

Yellow Breasted Chat?
I was thinking vireo, but most of them have bars on the wings. Then I stumbled across the Yellow-breasted Chat at the end of the warblers. My Sibley guide calls it the most "unwarbler-like" warbler: bigger and with a stout bill.

Yellow-breasted Chat
This can be moved to Yellow-breasted Chat, Icteria virens.

The latest AOU checklist indicates this species (among others) as "...probably misplaced in the current phylogenetic listing...." So its taxonomically, and otherwise, an interesting bird. Usually they would be hanging-out in brushy habitats with some trees. I think they have declined in my immediate area so its nice to see. Good bird, nice photo.

Changed Taxon
Media was moved from ID Request.
