Wren

Wren

Location: Earth » North America » United States » South Carolina » Beaufort County

Date: May 13, 2008

Taken at Hunting Island State Park, in a wooded campground about 200 meters from the beach. I guess it's likely a Carolina Wren, but the belly and flanks seemed redder than I'm used to seeing. The call/song (not sure which) did not sound the same as the Carolina Wren sounds I'm used to hearing here at home.

I Go With Carolina Wren
Its been a long time since I've seen a Carolina Wren but that's what I think you have. The only other possibility is Marsh Wren.

As for voice, a few weeks ago, I heard what I thought was an American Robin make the craziest sounds. It persisted and I finally turned toward the noise to track it down but soon it reverted to something recongnizable. Beside geographic variation and extensive repertoires sometimes birds seem to improvise. ?

Changed Taxon
Media was moved from ID Request. David, thanks for the comments. The more I look at it, the more I think it's a Carolina Wren.

Just Today
Just today I had a Bewick's Wren do a pretty good Black-throated Sparrow.
