ID
Did your birding friend confirm the ID on this one? My field guide shows them as medium gray on the back with white bellies. It does not note a male/female distinction, but the adults apparently have a fully black face and front of neck, while the juveniles have a black eye stripe that extends behind the eye.

I can't see how much of the face is black on the left-hand bird. The one on the right could be a juvenile. The colors look a bit washed out in the photo...could you tell if the plumage on their backs was grayer than shown here?

Photo
I just noticed you replaced the original photo with this one. When you're posting a totally new image (and not a crop, sharpen, etc.), it's probably best to post it as a new file. That way any comments about the old image can still be in the proper context.

Anyway, this is a much better photo. I'm going to call this a juvenile black-faced cuckoo-shrike, as the field guide shows mature birds have black on the front part of the next as well.
