Killdeer, female

Location: Earth » North America » United States » Texas » Williamson County

Date: July 19, 2005

This female killdeer raised four young from a nest in a horse pasture. The temperature reached well over 100 degrees while she was brooding, and she crouched over the eggs all day in the sun, shading them, leaving only at sundown for water.
