Red-shouldered Hawk?
Somewhat difficult to ID a bird without knowing it size, however, judging by its size relative to the visible lumber, this bird is about 19 inches, not counting the tail which is not visible; total size may be around 24 inches. The hawk has many light feathers on its back/wings, probably too many for a Cooper's Hawk. I believe this may be an immature Red-shouldered Hawk; compare the image of an immature at All About Birds.

Don't add a third!:) I hadn't even thought Red-shouldered hawk. I really can't lend an opionion. From reading all that I have read, I understand that I.D. from a photo (especially one view) is quite tough. I just hoped an expert would see it and say "hey, that's such and such..."; from experience. The more I read about them and the more pictures I see online, the less clear it all becomes. I just know it's a hawk. Thanks for taking a look and lending an opinion. Should we keep these pics (left in Accipitridae) or trash them?

Sorry, I didn't guesstimate the size at the time, I was leaving for an appointment when I saw it, so I ran back in and grabbed the camera and just took a couple quick shots.

Nice Piece of Sleuthing
Last December I observed both a Red-shouldered Hawk immature and a Cooper's Hawk immature -- not side-by-side or anything. Ted did the work, I'm just seconding -- without too much investigation -- Red-shouldered Hawk, immature. Nice shot.
