Painted Bunting, male

Painted Bunting, male

Location: Earth » North America » United States » Texas » Williamson County

Date: May 12, 2007

Painted Buntings are summer-resident breeders here. They're heavily parasitized by brown-headed cowbirds, but recover with a cowbird control program. Their preferred food is knotroot bristlegrass seeds, but they will take millet.

Very
cool.
I had no idea such a colorful bird existed in the US, except for some of the introduced parrots here in south FL, but then again, I don't know very much about birds.
Looking forward to more of your images.
