Western Red-tail

Western Red-tail

Location: Earth » North America » United States » Utah

Date: September 3, 2007

Portrait of a lucky bird. Found by sailboaters in the Great Salt Lake (Utah) about seven miles from shore. Taken to the park ranger at the nearby marina. No injuries, just thin, weak, and coated with brine. After a warm shower, drying out, many mice, and fat chicken she regained weight and strength. Released after six days of rest. A typical example of the subspecies calurus.
