Yep, that's a Cooper's Hawk. Sibley and I think most of my other guides mention that Cooper's Hawks like to appear at bird feeders. I had one sitting on an arm of my bird feeder just a couple of days ago -- scared all the sparrows out of the yard!

William and Mike, thanks for the ID and the move.

This hawk is a regular visitor in my backyard. Luckily for the sparrows, I have tight growing junipers very close to the bird feeders and cypress trees nearby to provide cover/escape for some very close calls. Its exciting to watch and hawk needs to eat too but I hope the house sparrows, finches and juncos continue to get away, at least in my backyard.
