Rusty Blackbird

Rusty Blackbird

Location: Earth » North America » United States » Delaware » New Castle County

Date: March 7, 2007

Also looks like a Brewer's Blackbird (Euphagus cyanocephalus) so not 100% sure.

Blackbird
My Sibley guide shows Brewer's Blackbirds are uncommon in the coastal eastern states. Perhaps a Rusty Blackbird? Might be hard to tell from this picture.

Merry Christmas!

Rusty Blackbird
Mike, Thank you and Merry Christmas! I think that you are correct. Range certainly fits Rusty Blackbird better and photo at Cornell matches this image very well. Thanks again, Ted

Edit: I went back to the original photo and adjusted brightness/contrast and re-posted here; lots of rusty edges on wing feathers :)

Changed Taxon

?
Do Rusty blackbirds have iridescence? I can make out some here

Iridescence
I believe its does have iridescence, check my search on blackbird at eNature.com for zip code 19701. Statement there under Rusty Blackbird says "In spring males are black, with a bluish and greenish iridescence".
