Bird Seen On UCF Campus

Bird Seen On UCF Campus

Location: Earth » North America » United States » Florida » Orange County

Date: November 7, 2007

Saw this beautiful bird on a pine tree by the UCF library. He flew to a lamp post in a parking lot, then to a tree, and finally settled down, not flying off as I approached, on top of a building. He didn't seem to like me.

Photo taken with a Pentax *ist Ds, with a 500mm f8 manual focus lens. I am the creator and copyright holder.

If anyone knows what he is, I wouldn't mind knowing.

Immature
Considering you shot in the south-east, Probably an immature Red tailed or red shouldered hawk. But not sure

You have so many birds down there in Florida that would blow me out of the sky but this bird struck me as Red-tailed Hawk too.

Red-tailed Hawk
The short tail without a lot of dark bands fits a Red-tailed Hawk. Red-shouldered Hawk would have a slightly longer tail with dark (immature) or black (adult) bands.
