Louisiana Waterthrush

Louisiana Waterthrush

Location: Earth » North America » United States » Texas » Williamson County

Date: September 3, 2007

This bird foraged along the muddy margins of an intermittent creek that was slowly drying up. Although a waterthrush has been seen on this property before, this is the first time I've been able to photograph one. I don't find one at all in dry years, of course. This year was unusually wet, with the creek having water constantly through the summer.

I watched for at least half an hour as it worked its way along the water margin, turning over every leaf, stick, and lump of drying algae, and poking into the mud.
