Mourning Dove Chicks

Mourning Dove Chicks

Location: Earth » North America » United States » South Carolina » Greenwood County

Date: August 9, 2007

We had the pleasure of watching the birth of two mourning dove chicks right outside our kitchen window. The nest was originally built by a Northern Cardinal in the spring, but it was unsuccessful in brooding. The mourning doves had better luck. They seemed to thrive despite many days of dry and very hot weather.

Photographed through a window. I wish I could have cleared some of the small leafy branches around the nest for photography purposes, but I did not want to disturb the bird activity.

These chicks are shown a couple days before fledging.
