Female Southwestern Willow Flycatcher

Female Southwestern Willow Flycatcher
Earth » North America » United States » Arizona » Mohave County

Date: May 29, 2011 These birds are few and hard to find. Finally, today, after careful observation of a male-occupied territory, I spied this female with nest material. They say that only females build nests so we can confirm that this territory has a pair and the female is building a nest. Protocol calls for us to return now every two days to determine the stage of nest building, then eggs, then nestlings, then fledging if all goes well. Notice this female is banded. Both the male and female color bands have been resighted and show that this will be the third year this pair has come back to this territory. I will post photos of the process when I can. Go SWFL's!
