Date: November 8, 2009 Looking for ID of this little guy. We have a 5 acre pecan ranch and these little ones are all over picking off the pecan worms falling to the ground. All birds submitted by me will be from Azle, TX. I don't know where you want that information noted. Posted by Annette Daniel on November 17, 2009 06:18. Last updated: February 09, 2010 07:02. Warbler
Welcome Annette.
I'm going with Yellow-rumped Warbler. This is a highly variable species (used to be two species) but with the yellow spots on the side of the breast, the streaking on the breast and down the sides, etc, etc, that's what I'm going with. I think I can see a tiny speck of the yellow rump in the photograph. The dark flight feathers make this specimen look different to me.
With the prominent supercilium, with the throat sweeping back onto the neck outlining a kind of dark auricular, this specimen seems to trend toward the Myrtle type(s).
Nice arrangement you have: the birds get a great meal and you have fewer agricultural pests. You might try and take some time to study the variation in this species that is represented on your property.
