Woodland Kingfisher - Halcyon senegalensis

Woodland Kingfisher - Halcyon senegalensis
Earth » Africa » South Africa » Limpopo

Date: March 18, 2009 Kruger National Park, Limpopo, South Africa. I'm pretty certain on these birds, but any corrections are appreciated. I had trouble with this guy, he seems between the woodland and the mangrove kingfishers, but mangrove's range doesn't extend to far inland; this was the thornveld. There is supposed to be more blue on the head for the woodland, but the distinctly black and red bill seemed to decide it for me.
