Slate-colored Junco male
Based entirely on my field guides, these two appear to indeed be the male and female respectively of the slate-colored subspecies, Junco hyemalis hyemalis.
Incidentally, since they're closely related, perhaps you should link your two pictures together: http://birdsite.org/statics/show/3#textformat.
