Deterring snakes

Does anyone have any ideas on how to deter snakes from bird boxes? We have lost so many birds in our boxes due to snakes...
And just this morning I found a snake in the wren's nest with two dead parents and no babies. I was devastated... the babies would have been ready to leave the nest soon and the parents were taking such great care of them

I am trying to think up something to put around the boxes to scare off the snakes... but I cant come up with anything

Its almost not worth putting up the bird boxes because this happens nearly every time.

If the boxes are on a pole you could wrap a small voltage electric fence wire around the bottom of the post attached to a transformer that plugs into a wall socket. The same type electric fence transformers used for cattle or dogs.

Or, maybe you could wrap the bottom of the pole with razor wire or course barbed wire. I would think razor wire would be better than barbed wire though.
